The Ministry of Transport decided to ban citizens moving around the city on electric scooters from crossing the carriageway of streets at pedestrian crossings. The draft resolution will amend the current Rules of the road.
The Ministry of Transport told State Duma deputy Saltan Khamzaev about his initiative, who had previously applied to the department with a similar initiative. The parliamentarian proposed to make speed reduction zones for electric scooters at a distance of 30 meters from pedestrian crossings. The ministry replied that they were just dealing with this issue, and now a document is almost ready that will generally prohibit the drivers of these vehicles from crossing the road where ordinary people do it.
“The draft resolution for persons using means of individual mobility for movement provides for a ban on crossing the road at pedestrian crossings, including unregulated ones,”
— explained First Deputy Minister Andrei Kostyuk in a letter to the deputy.
The draft resolution has already been approved by a special subcommittee, and now preparations are underway to submit the document for consideration by the government. The department believes that the exclusion of electric scooters from the number of pedestrians on the «zebra» will create safe conditions in this area, RIA Novosti reports.
Earlier, lawyer Efim Kazantsev told how to hold an electric scooter liable if he caused damage to property or health. According to the expert, if a collision was made, it is necessary, first of all, to contact the State traffic inspectorate so that they find out what the power of the vehicle was. And depending on this indicator, the case can be classified as a full-fledged accident with all the ensuing consequences. One way or another, the lawyer believes, it is necessary to demand compensation through the court.
