Due to well-known circumstances, Russians are becoming less and less likely to travel around the world, but the propensity for the exotic remains, and this is manifested, among other things, in the names that they give to their children.

So, in 2022, more and more Muscovites began to give their children rare names. The names Miroslava, Adam, Yesenia and Mia have become much more popular compared to last year.

“The popularity of the rare female names Miroslava, Yesenia and Miya and the male names Sergey and Adam have increased by more than 15% since the beginning of 2022 compared to the same period in 2021. The name Leo is also gaining popularity, back in 2019 it was in ninth position, and in 2022 it ranks fourth in popularity, ”

Svetlana Ukhaneva, acting head of the Moscow Civil Registry Office, told TASS.

But still, the most popular baby names in 2022 remain Alexander, so named 1,565 boys, and Sofia (Sofya) — so named 1,790 girls.

By the way, the name Vasilisa only this year entered the top 10 popular names and took ninth place.

The trio of popular names also remains unchanged among male names: Mikhail and Maxim occupy the second and third places, among female names since 2020, the names Maria and Anna are popular. Also, a steady growth in the top 10 is acquiring the name Matvey: since 2019, it has been moving up one position annually.
